I love Chinese New Year!
We hold simple celebrations every year alongside our fellow ChiNoys (though not as elaborate as theirs). I used to visit temples back then and indulge in misua and tea served in each temple, and watch lion and dragon dances.
My husband and I are both dragons. Our son's a sheep. I don't know how we manage our relationship being both dragons, but we were told it's a lucky year for us. :)
Dubbed as Flavors of Fortune: Trip Down Chinatown, Good Life held a 2-day celebration of the Chinese New Year festival for the Year of the Rooster from January 27-28 at the Robinsons Place Manila Midtown Atrium.
We got an event passport that can be availed by purchasing any Good Life product worth PhP 90 at Robinsons Supermarket. It gave us an access to the food samples and activity booths inside. It also included a raffle stub, a Prosperity Tree stub and a voting stub for your chosen dish among those prepared by the participating hotels.
According to Fly Ace Corporation's General Manager Ramon Daez, "Good Life aims for a holistic festivity that promotes a fortune-filled life, which includes the fusion of good food, good relationships and a good disposition in life. We want to joyfully share with the rest of the Filipinos the best of Chinese cuisine through our Asian food line Good Life,"
Here are some of the booths in the Activity Strip:
Bayview Park Hotel won the Good Life Chinoy Dish Showdown. Other participants were Hotel Kimberly, City Garden Hotel, Lotus Garden Hotel, Eurotel, Amelie Hotel and Best Western Hotel.
The Good Life Flavors of Fortune: Food Trip Down Chinatown 2017 is presented by Fly Ace Corporation, Good Life, City of Manila and Robinsons Place Manila (the official venue partner) with event partners Cook Magazine, Breakfast Magazine, Business Mirror, Malaya Business Insight, Manila Times, The Standard, Manila Bulletin, Mommy Bloggers Philippines, ChinoyTV, Ermita-Malate Business Owners Association, Ateneo Confucius Institute, Fujidenzo, Whirlpool, Tecnogas, Masflex, Franzia and Taichi Guyasteen.

I was able to do the paper cutting. I did so well (lol), but I didn't have a single photo because my husband and son were roaming. My husband tried the fortune-telling booth, and we were both surprised at how well he read my husband's personality. The fortune was good but, well, we have yet to find out if they're real.
There were also paper lantern making, TaiChi Guyasteen and Masflex booths. I got Popy a small lantern made out of angpao.

I tried my luck at the Prosperity Tree and got this cute Good Life Bread Crumb pillow. :) It was the last piece among the pillows.
The program was hosted by Valerie Tan of Chinoy TV. There were a couple of games for the audience. Chinoy Life on the legend of Chinese Zodiacs and taught us how to count in Mandarin (including hand signals). There was also a raffle. We didn't win any. Better luck next time. :)

Our choice: Lotus Garden Hotel's entry. It was an east meets west taste. |
